Treatment

There are many forms of therapy for different types of emotional / psychiatric disorders but the area of research I am most interested in is psychedelic assisted therapy, especially for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD for short.

Please understand that I in no way recommend you self medicate with any type of psychedelic. Always talk to your General Practitioner before taking ANY non-prescription product.

This page is simply meant to inform you that no matter what type of emotional / psychological unease you may suffer from as a result of childhood trauma, first responder trauma, anxiety, depression etc, there is hope for complete recovery thanks to a renewed interest and thorough research into psychedelics which are proving to be one of man’s best weapons against some these disturbing and quite often seriously debilitating human afflictions.

I myself am afflicted with complex PTSD and never knew so until later in life when it became a big story here in Canada about 7 years ago after the aboriginal “residential school” story / nightmare became front page news, and still is a continuing news story due to the horrific trauma these children suffered and still do suffer from the resulting PTSD.

I was never able to get any lasting help from conventional “talk therapy”, in fact, not one of the several therapists I’ve seen over the decades ever mentioned PTSD.

About 3 years ago I started to investigate the renewed research into psychedelics which has been underway around the world now for at least the last ten years, as a way to treat many emotional / psychological conditions that previously proved difficult to treat with talk therapy alone.

After reading numerous articles on psychedelics I became interested in the concept of “micro dosing” which can be researched online for more information on that. And so for the past year and a half I’ve been micro-dosing with psilocybin and am happy to say it has helped me quite bit. The term “micro-dosing” indicates a dose of 1/10 of an average dose or 1/10 of a small dose, of mushrooms or any other psychedelic.

*Below are some definitions on the subject of “psychedelic assisted therapy” from the Numinus Corporation newsletter, a wellness company based in Vancouver BC Canada, who are engaged in ongoing research partnering with Health Canada to bring psychedelic assisted therapy to the public along with strict therapeutic guidelines tested and authorized by Health Canada.

*What are Psychedelics?

“Psychedelics is an umbrella term for certain types of drugs that are known for their psychoactive effects, and increasingly for their vast therapeutic potential. They include certain types of plants and fungi, as well as synthetic compounds.

*What is Psychedelic Assisted Therapy?

Psychedelic assisted-psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves the use of psychedelic substances such as psilocybin, MDMA and ketamine for the purpose of facilitating mental – emotional wellness, therapeutic breakthroughs, and insight.

It is a broad term that encompasses a number of different approaches and protocols using psychedelics, and which has been practiced in the Western medical model since the 1950s. Although psychedelics like LSD showed promise as therapeutic agents in those early years, a period of prohibition starting in the 1960s and through the early 2000s significantly hindered the research and development of these modalities.

The last decade has seen a significant body of encouraging research supporting the efficacy of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for a number of mental health issues, especially depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD. Though most psychedelics are still regulated substances, the legal and medical landscape is changing quickly, and more treatment options are starting to become available to the general public.

*Is Psychedelic Assisted Therapy available Now?

Yes. Numinus currently offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Additionally, we are undertaking clinical trials with MDMA and psilocybin assisted psychotherapy to help further the body of research supporting their approval as treatments for a variety of conditions. We plan to offer these treatments as the regulatory landscape in North America changes and our Clinical Advisory Board continues to support those policy changes starting here in Canada. Read our recommendation letter to Health Canada for more.” – From a Numinus News letter.
