Left untreated, childhood trauma can cripple a person for life and even kill them in the end...
Goodbye Dear Friend
My friend Frank Williams (R) was a highly talented aboriginal artist, as was his brother Dance, both of whom were from the Ahousaht band on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Frank and Dance both attended residential school where they were severely abused. Frank later told me that what went on at home was worse, as his parents suffered abuse at residential school also. Frank suffered from complex PTSD as a result of severe childhood trauma and was never treated for that. Over the years alcoholism ate away at him and in the end street drugs killed him, but the real cause was untreated complex PTSD as a result of unbearable childhood trauma. His brother Dance passed away one month later, ostensibly from “organ failure”, but like Frank the root cause was untreated complex PTSD. The purpose of Children of Trauma Society – a registered nonprofit society – is to end the lack of treatment for adults suffering from PTSD as a result of childhood trauma and to shine a light on an issue which governments and society have ignored for way too long and up until a few years ago… refused to even admit the problem existed.
